Fitz and The Tantrums: All Anthems

“We’re all connected and once people realize that, it’s going to change the way the world works”, says Michael ‘Fitz’ Fitzpatrick of Fitz and The Tantrums. They proved just that as they belted rhythmic tunes from their newest self titled album and brought the house down with their music at the Marquee Theater in Tempe this week. The near sold out audience was the largest they’ve experienced in Arizona to date. Fitz was sure to thank every beating heart in the crowd, along with his family in tow who are from the valley. Even Little Fitz, 3 year old Theo, made an on-stage cameo past his bed time to rock out with Dad and the band.

Every hand clapped, every song was an anthem, every band member uniquely eccentric. Their style has always paid homage to the music of the 80’s, complete with fluorescent lights dancing to match every 808. The electric chemistry between Fitz and lead female vocalist Noelle Scaggs was something unlike any other as they moved about the stage in impromptu choreography without skipping a note. If anyone ever had a doubt, they perform live with as much execution and production as their record. One of the first songs written was the first single “HandClap,” which garnered over a million streams on Spotify its first week out, helped confirm that their trajectory is only going up from here.

This album is about desire in all forms. “Desire is one of those emotions that really forces you to turn your brain off and just feel.” True music brings an escape and an experience of just feeling the moment. Thanks to Fitz and The Tantrums, that’s exactly what we did.
